Incessant rains keep officials on toes in erstwhile Warangal district

Warangal: With incessant rains lashing almost all parts of erstwhile Warangal district for the last three days and more rains expected in the next two days, the officials of different districts in erstwhile Warangal are taking steps to deal with the situation arising out of the rains.

Several roads and low-lying areas under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits were inundated due to rains, the GWMC officials along with the district administration are taking steps to provide relief to the victims. Mayor Gundu Sudharani said that a toll-free number 1800 425 1980, a special mobile number  9701999645  and WhatsApp number 7997100300 had been allotted to redress the complaints related to the inundation of the houses and other issues related to rains.

She also directed the officials to take immediate steps to remove the silt in the side drains and the nalas to avoid the inundation of the low lying areas. The officials were also asked to be ready to shift the people in the low-lying areas to the relief centres. “People living in the old and dilapidated houses should be shifted to the safe places and relief centres,” she added.  Meanwhile, the Mulugu police have appealed to the people, particularly youth and children, not to dare to visit the streams and rivulets to take selfies during the rains. “People can call at 100 or district police control room phone number 7901628410 to get the help,” a press note said. ASP Potharaju Sai Chaitanya said that the people should not go close to Jamppannavagu, Ramappa Lake, Gundlavagu and Morchavagu as they were in spate.

Mahabubabad district collector Abhilasha Abhinav has also directed the officials to take steps to prevent human and animal loss due to accidents related to rains. She directed the officials to keep signboards on the low-level bridges and the bridges that are not in good condition. Aakeru vagu, Munneru vagu and Aligeru vagu (rivulets) and Pakhal Lake are overflowing due to rains. In the Warangal Rural district, people were asked to contact 9154252937 and toll-free number  1800 425 3424 to get assistance related to rains. Jangaon district collector K Nikhila, who held a teleconference, has asked the officials to stay alert and help the people affected by the rains. She said that the district might witness a maximum rainfall of 20 cm on Thursday night.
