Students from the Government Medical College stage a sit-in in front of the institution in Asifabad on Thursday.
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Students from the Government Medical College here staged a sit-in in front of the institution demanding basic amenities and teaching staff on Thursday.
Carrying placards of the demands, the students studying MBBS at the college staged the protest by boycotting classes. They wanted a laboratory, cadavers (bodies meant for practicals), hostel, sanitation, canteen and transportation facilities from the college to the town. They also sought recruitment of lab technicians and sufficient assistant and associate professors to teach various subjects of the course.
They said that they were unable to understand the subjects due to insufficient teachers. They stated that they were facing inconvenience in pursuing the MBBS due to a slew of challenges faced by the institution. They alleged that the principal of the college was showing negligence in resolving the problems.
They later submitted a representation to Collector Venkatesh Dothre seeking his intervention in addressing challenges of the college. They said that the Collector had assured them to take steps to improve basic amenities and ensure professors were appointed. They claimed that they had brought the issue to the notice of the principal in the past.
The college was sanctioned in 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs 54 crore. It was established on the outskirts of Ankusapur village near Asifabad town. The admissions into MBBS began in 2023.
