Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police’s Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has nabbed and deported a Nigerian national, who had been allegedly residing in India illegally after his visa and passport expired, and was allegedly involved in drug-peddling activities.

The suspect, identified as Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro alias Hopy Cup alias Jeksa (43), a native of Imo State in Nigeria, arrived in India on a business visa in 2012 and was shuttling between Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

On receiving information, the H-NEW team recently nabbed him while he was acting suspiciously in Asif Nagar.

According to the H-NEW officials, although no drugs were found during the search, investigations revealed that he had overstayed his visa and had been illegally residing in India.

“Coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) confirmed that his passport and visa had long expired. He was subsequently deported to Nigeria after due process,” said a senior official.

Since its inception, H-NEW has deported 22 foreign nationals found overstaying or involved in illegal activities. Of them, 10 have been deported in 2025 alone.

The Hyderabad Police cautioned that several foreigners entering India on medical, student or business visas continue to stay illegally after expiry and get involved in drug trafficking.

Citizens are urged to report drug-related information to H-NEW at 8712661601.
