Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha strongly criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of actions that hurt the sentiments of Telangana’s people. She argued that since Revanth was not part of the Telangana movement, his decisions were not in line with the people’s aspirations.
Speaking during the discussion on the Governor’s address in the Legislative Council on Saturday, Kavitha pointed out that the Governor had mentioned record-breaking paddy production in Telangana. She credited the achievement to the Kaleshwaram project. She emphasised that before the project, only 64 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were produced, compared to the current 2.6 crore metric tons. She criticised the Congress government for neglecting the agricultural sector and accused them of misleading the Governor regarding loan waivers and bonuses for farmers.
Kavitha questioned the government’s claims of fighting for Krishna river water rights, asking why Nagarjuna Sagar had not yet come under Telangana’s control. She raised concerns about Andhra Pradesh diverting water from the Sagar left canal and demanded accountability.
She also criticised the partial implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme, calling it misleading to claim it was fully executed. Kavitha also demanded a review of gas subsidy distribution for women and questioned the lack of gold provision under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme.
She praised the previous KCR-led government for increasing Aarogyasri coverage to Rs 5 lakh and strengthening public hospitals. She lamented the current state of government hospitals, citing a lack of basic supplies like needles and medicines. Kavitha demanded the release of reports from the dedicated Commission on BC reservations and the Shamim Akhtar Commission on SC categorization. She urged the government to present caste-wise and village-wise survey details in the Assembly before introducing the BC Reservations Bill.
Kavitha also called for a white paper on investments received by the State over the past 15 months, alleging that industries were moving from Telangana to Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
