Sangareddy: BRS leaders in Sangareddy have accused the Congress government of conspiring to shelve the Sangameshwara Lift Irrigation Project (SLIP) and Basaveshwara Lift Irrigation Project (BLIP), both launched under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) by the previous BRS regime to irrigate nearly four lakh acres across five constituencies in the district.
Addressing reporters after watching a PowerPoint presentation by former Minister T Harish Rao, who countered the findings of the PC Ghose Commission’s report on KLIP, on a giant screen at Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar’s camp office, the BRS leaders said they would chalk out an action plan to pressure the Congress government to resume works on SLIP and BLIP.
Former Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran alleged that the Congress was spreading misinformation about KLIP to stall ongoing work and tarnish former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s image for political mileage.
“KCR envisioned lifting water from Mallanna Sagar to Singur and then irrigating the entire district through SLIP and BLIP. But Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy did not announce a single rupee for these projects during his recent visit to Zaheerabad,” he said.
Kranthi Kiran demanded that the Chief Minister and Congress leaders from Sangareddy allocate funds for the two projects, warning that BRS would launch multiple protest programmes to highlight what he described as the Congress government’s indifference to farmers’ needs.
Zaheerabad MLA K Manik Rao said the backward constituencies of Zaheerabad and Narayankhed would benefit the most from the two lift irrigation schemes. Former Narayankhed MLA M Bhupal Reddy pointed out that the BRS government had already released water from Mallanna Sagar to Nizam Sagar—built across the Manjeera river on the Sangareddy-Kamareddy border—to meet ayacut requirements.
Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar Reddy demanded that the Congress stop spreading “false propaganda” against K Chandrashekhar Rao and BRS for political gain. “People are closely watching these developments and will teach the Congress a lesson in the upcoming local body elections,” he said.
The BRS leaders raised slogans against the Congress government in response to the PC Ghose report.
