Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed his reservations over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, apprehending that Dalits, minorities and women could lose their votes.
Addressing the Congress Political Affairs Committee meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, the Chief Minister said the SIR exercise could become a major issue for Lambadas, Adivasis and migrant workers. He noted that a significant number of people in several constituencies had migrated to other places and stressed the need to ensure that their names are not deleted from the voter lists.
Revanth Reddy directed the party to appoint in-charges for all 119 Assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies as part of the SIR initiative. He instructed Assembly constituency in-charges to remain within their respective constituencies and closely monitor the exercise.
The Chief Minister also asked in-charge Ministers to dedicate one full day every 10 days exclusively for party-related activities and interact directly with grassroots-level workers. “I too will meet party functionaries at the grassroots level once every 10 days. I will dedicate three days in a month exclusively to party functionaries,” he assured.
He further suggested assigning specific responsibilities to Rajya Sabha members and MLCs in Hyderabad region and directed that SIR meetings be organised on an Assembly constituency basis across the 15 constituencies in Hyderabad.
