Hanamkonda: Students of Sumathi Reddy Institute of Technology for Women (SRITW) conducted an impressive roadshow at Public Gardens in Hanamkonda against drug abuse.
The roadshow was organised with the slogan “Drugs destroy, culture awakens consciousness.” Warangal Central Zone DCP Dhara Kavitha, Subedari CI Ranjith and the college principal Dr I Rajasri Reddy attended the event on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, DCP Dhara Kavitha said drug abuse was not merely a personal problem but a serious social issue that silently weakens society. Intoxicating substances were destroying the future, health and family life of the youth, and they should therefore stay away from drugs.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Rajasri Reddy said educational institutions should not be limited to imparting academic knowledge alone, but must also instil good values, discipline and a sense of responsibility among students. Teaching values such as respecting traditions, self-control and harmony would help protect youth from going astray, she said.
CI Ranjith appreciated the disciplined participation of faculty members and students in the roadshow. The programme conveyed a strong message to society, showing that the youth were united against drugs.
The organisers expressed hope that the roadshow would serve as a beginning towards building a responsible society. College administrative officer Venugopala Swamy, faculty members and students were present.
