Incessant overnight rainfall lashed Hyderabad’s western suburbs, with the University of Hyderabad recording 45.3 mm. The downpour disrupted Vinayaka Chaturthi festivities, affecting idol sales, pandal setups, and festive markets across the city. Several areas reported rainfall above 30 mm.

The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) will distribute over 3.2 lakh eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols in Hyderabad and districts for Vinayaka Chaturthi. Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad will be held on September 6, coinciding with Anant Chaturdashi and marking the conclusion of the 10-day Vinayaka Chaturthi festival. Police and civic bodies will coordinate arrangements for a smooth and safe immersion process.

The Khairatabad Ganesh idol for this year’s Vinayaka Chaturthi will feature the ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme and be crafted from eco-friendly clay. Preparations involve 150 artisans, with expectations of over 10 lakh devotees visiting during the 10-day festival.

This will be in addition to their yearly free distribution of clay Ganesha idols.

According to the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi president Kallem Niranjan Reddy, a few more participants were expected to enroll for in this year’s laddu auction, which will be held before procession of Ganesh idol in Balapur on Thursday.
