Mudiraj in BCs and Madiga in SCs represent some of the largest sub-castes in the state, yet they struggle to receive benefits proportional to their population sizes. Addressing these disparities through sub-caste-based reservations is crucial for achieving true social justice.

While discussing the Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Chary highlighted that the Congress had promised to raise BC reservation in local bodies from the current 22 percent to 42 percent upon coming to power. However, he pointed out that the party has yet to take any action towards fulfilling this promise. "During the assembly elections, Congress promised to increase BC reservation to 42 percent in local bodies," he said.

Speaking to Telangana Vaddera community leaders on Wednesday, Kavitha stated that even after a year in power, the Congress government had failed to take action on key promises, such as constructing BC Unity (Aikyatha) buildings with a Rs 50 crore allocation per district and ensuring 42 percent reservation for BCs in local bodies. She also condemned the government for neglecting caste-based professions.

Retired IAS officer Busani Venkateshwara Rao as chairman of the dedicated Commission to conduct contemporaneous rigorous empirical enquiry into the nature and implications of the backwardness qua local bodies, with respect to the Backward Classes.

The public hearings by Telangana Commission for Backward Classes have been postponed with immediate effect and a revised schedule will be announced shortly.
