Malkajgiri police have ordered the closure of wine shops, toddy shops, and restaurant-attached bars (excluding star hotels and registered clubs) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on March 26 for Sri Ramanavami. Violators will face prosecution.

The Telangana High Court has reserved its verdict on petitions challenging the State’s extension of the liquor shop licence application deadline. Petitioners argue the move violates Excise Rules, while the government defends it as a policy decision prompted by a bandh. The Court clarified that applications submitted during the extended period will be subject to its final ruling.

Wine shop license applications in Adilabad and surrounding districts fell sharply for the 2025–27 period despite the government extending the deadline. Revenue, however, rose 15%, with factors including higher fees, festivals, and alleged syndicates affecting participation.

The Telangana government's decision to extend the liquor shop licence application deadline has sparked widespread criticism and legal threats. Drawing parallels with a 2019 Andhra Pradesh case where a similar extension was struck down by the High Court, applicants allege unfair practices and political manipulation.

Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy has issued his own set of liquor shop guidelines, instructing applicants to operate shops only from 4 pm to 9 pm, outside villages, and banning permit rooms and belt shops. The move has surprised the Congress government and Excise officials, who are closely watching the licensing process.
