Adilabad: Grocery stores and wine shops saw a mad rush of customers with the government declaring a 10-day lockdown beginning from May 12.
General public made beelines to kirana stores across the erstwhile district from 4 pm to buy commodities. They were placing orders for purchasing groceries required for a month, expecting the lockdown would be extended till the first week of June. They, however, maintained physical distance when forming queues.
“Customers mostly bought cooking oil, sugar, lentils, soaps and onions needed for around a month,” R Naresh, a trader from Mancherial town, said.
Meanwhile, tipplers swarmed liquor outlets presuming the shops would remain closed during the lockdown period. They bought alcohol sufficient for at least two weeks. They, however, heaved a sigh of relief when the State government decided to allow the sale of liquor on the lines of grocery stores from 6 am to 10 am.

Nizamabad: Immediately after the announcement of lockdown in the State, people began queuing up in front of kirana shops, supermarkets, vegetable markets and wine shops in erstwhile Nizamabad district.
In Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Bodhan, Armoor, Bheemgal, Banswada, Yellareddy towns people lined up to buy groceries, despite the announcement that shops would be kept open between 6 am and 10 am every day.
