TGCHE commences work for revamping degree courses curriculum

Hyderabad: The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), which commenced work for revamping the degree courses curriculum, has decided to change the syllabus between 20 and 30 per cent.
According to sources, 20 per cent of the science curriculum will be tweaked, while the arts courses will see 30 per cent changes in syllabus from the next academic year i.e., 2025-26.
Changes to the arts courses are being done keeping competitive exams like the UPSC Civil Services and TGPSC Groups recruitment exams in view. The syllabus followed for the competitive exams, as per the sources, will be integrated into the arts courses.
For instance, to enhance the number of students opting for Telugu option in the Civils, the degree syllabus will be modelled on the lines of the Civil Services syllabus. This is to ensure that students are equipped with necessary knowledge and skills to crack various government recruitment exams.
In addition to academic requirements, given the rise in cyber crimes, the new syllabus is being developed to create awareness on cyber crimes and how to prevent them.
Further, the Council is contemplating on introducing 50 per cent internships as part of degree course curriculum. This meant students will have 50 per cent theory classes and 50 per cent hands-on training in the relevant field.
This apart, field trips and project works may be mandatory. For instance, BCom students will be asked to visit a local bank and make a detailed project report on services and issues being faced by the customers.
The Council, which already constituted subject wise committees, will soon hold a meeting with conventional universities vice chancellors and universities boards of studies on syllabus revamp and approve the same for the next academic year.
Meanwhile, the TGCHE is mulling an agreement with the T-SAT to air digital lessons for the undergraduate students. Plans are also afoot to introduce an online data science programme at the undergraduate level in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras.
