Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said despite Corona pandemic and its impact on revenues, the State Government was according top priority to development in urban areas to cater to the requirements of rapid urbanization.

In tune with the works being executed under Palle Pragathi programme, focus was being laid on sanitation, greenery, drinking water and provision of basic amenities in towns and all urban local bodies under Pattana Pragathi programme, said the Minister.


He inaugurated the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) at Korutla on Monday. He also laid foundation for construction of vegetable and meat market at Metpally.

Later, addressing media persons at Metpally, the Minister said to ensure scientific disposal of faecal sludge in all municipalities across the State, FSTPs were being set up with a cost of Rs.325 crore. Already, a few have commenced operations and many are under different stages of completion, he said.

The Minister said for the convenience of people, vegetable and meat markets were being constructed in all the municipalities with a cost of Rs.500 crore.

This apart, Vaikuntadhamams were being constructed in all the ULBs to bid farewell to the departed souls in a good way, with a cost of Rs.200 crore. In addition to these works, every month Rs.148 crore were being released to the ULBs by the State Government under Pattana Pragathi programme, he informed.

All these works were being executed as per the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to transform the towns and ULBs into ideal urban areas with all provisions. All these works will be completed in this year, he said.

Focus also on public health infrastructure

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said apart from executing different development works under Palle Pragati and Pattana Pragathi, Telangana Government was focusing on improving public health infrastructure.

In the last 65 years prior to formation of Telangana, only four medical colleges, including Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya medical College and RIMS, Adilabad, he said.

But after formation of Telangana, five medical colleges were set up in the last few years. In addition to these, seven medical colleges were sanctioned to be set up in Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Mancheriyal, Jagityal, Sangareddy, Mahabubabad and Kothagudem, he said.

This apart, before to Telangana formation, there were 68 municipalities, they have now been increased to 142 ULBs, he said.

“Efforts to develop villages, municipalities and improving public health infrastructure was being done not on focusing the next elections but focusing on the welfare of next generations” said MAUD Minister Rama Rao .
