Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer V.C. Sajjanar on Tuesday formally assumed charge as the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC), Banjara Hills.
A 1996-batch IPS officer of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre, later allotted to Telangana, Sajjanar has built a reputation as a decisive officer with nearly three decades of service in key policing and administrative positions.
Born in Hubli, Karnataka, he is the son of C.B. Sajjanar and Girija Sajjanar. He holds a commerce degree from J.G. College of Commerce, Hubli, and an MBA from Karnataka University, Dharwad.
Sajjanar began his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon (Warangal) and Pulivendula (Kadapa). He went on to serve as Superintendent of Police in Nalgonda, Kadapa, Guntur, Warangal, and Medak districts. He also headed the CID’s Economic Offences Wing, and later commanded the elite anti-terror force OCTOPUS as well as the 6th Battalion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police at Mangalagiri.
Promoted as DIG and later IG, he held important posts in the Intelligence Department until March 2018. He then took charge as Cyberabad Police Commissioner, where he served until August 2021, before being appointed Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).
Widely known for his hands-on style of policing, Sajjanar now returns to a core law enforcement role, taking over one of the most challenging postings in the state’s police setup.
