Warangal Urban: Central Crime Station (CCS) police along with Hanamkonda police arrested four members of a gang for allegedly stealing goats, pigs, sheep and donkeys, and seized two mini-trucks worth Rs 13 lakh, a two-wheeler, and Rs 1.65 lakh cash from them.
The arrested were identified as Manupati Shekhar and Gandikota Kumar of Penchikalpet village of Kamanpur mandal in Peddapalli district, Vallepu Sandeep alias Chanti of Vittal Nagar in Godavarikhani and Illa Satya Anjaneyulu from Brahmanacheruvu village of Penumantla mandal in West Godavari district. Three other accused in the case, Kunta Shivaji, Kumba Koteshwar Rao alias Koti and Kutati Rambabu from Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh, are absconding.
Disclosing the details here on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Tarun Joshi said the main accused, Shekar, was involved in pig trade in the past. “He was arrested and jailed several times since 2012 on charges of house burglary and vehicle thefts in erstwhile Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. He committed the offences to make easy money,” the CP said, adding that the accused was introduced to Shivaji of Vijayawada in Karimnagar jail in 2015.
“Both released from jail in 2019. The same year, Shekhar and Kumar were arrested by police under Warangal police commissionerate for stealing 22 pigs under Atmakur police station limits and teak under Hasanparthi police station limits, and sent to jail. The accused were released from jail in May this year. But they again stole 35 animals from Velgatur mandal of Jagtial district and 14 animals from Mancherial district. On May 10, they stole a mini-truck to shift the stolen animals to Vijayawada,” the CP added.
CCS police led by Lakavathula Ramesh Kumar and Hanamkonda police arrested the accused at a desolate site near Hanamkonda bus stand on Monday night. Central Zone DCP K Pushpa and other officials were present at the press meet.
