20K households to benefit from new ration cards in erstwhile Adilabad district
According to information provided by authorities concerned, a total of 6,385 applications are pending with officials of civil supplies and revenue department in Adilabad district alone since 2018
Adilabad: The Telangana government’s decision to issue new white ration cards has rekindled hope among families in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, who were waiting for the benefit for over two years. The decision will bring to an end the long-pending dream of around 20,000 households of erstwhile Adilabad district.
According to information provided by authorities concerned, a total of 6,385 applications are pending with officials of civil supplies and revenue department in Adilabad district alone since 2018. Over 5,000 applications were dropped at the office of both revenue and civil supplies department in Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal districts each. The applications have not been processed so far.
However, the State Cabinet approved to grant 4.46 lakh white ration cards of which applications were pending across the State within a fortnight. The move cheered the applicants and ended their three year long wait for the cards. It is likely to benefit around 20,000 applicants soon.
Savai Jagadish, a private employee, said that he had applied for a white ration card in November of 2019, considering their weak financial background. He hoped that the facility would reduce financial burden in buying groceries, in particular rice. He thanked the government for giving its nod to sanction the cards.
As per authorities of the Civil Supplies department, the pending applications would be processed once the government issues guidelines. “A field-level verification drive was already being carried out for identifying genuine beneficiaries. Steps would be taken to provide the cards to the eligible beneficiaries before the deadline,” an official told ‘Telangana Today’.
Meanwhile, economically challenged families and employees working with the private sector have begun applying for the white ration cards. They are submitting their applications through Mee-Seva centres. It has to be seen whether the government would entertain such applications.
