Hyderabad: Director-General of Police M Mahendar Reddy on Friday said about 9,000 police personnel would be deployed for the smooth conduct of Sammakka Saralamma jatara at Medaram from February 16 to 19.
Reddy, who took part in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to review the arrangements being made for jatara, said police officials, who had experience of handling crowds in queues at Medaram earlier, would be deployed again.
These personnel would not only help in maintaining proper queues but also ensure in regulating traffic at Medaram and its surroundings. He said a command and control centre was also established to monitor queues and traffic movement and added that a sufficient number of fire tenders would also be deployed to attend to any emergency situation.
Somesh Kumar underscored the need for proper coordination among all the departments to make jatara a grand success. The officials should work in coordination with the temple priests and trust board members, he said.
Somesh Kumar said the works taken up by the engineering and endowment wings were almost completed while that of the Roads and Buildings department was completed. He said water into Jampanna Vagu, where bathing ghats were provided, was released on Friday morning.
The TSRTC was operating 3,850 buses from different places in the State to Medaram to ferry 21 lakh passengers. In addition to the main hospital, 35 health camps were also set up for the convenience of devotees. Food safety officials were also deployed at Medaram.
As many as 6,700 toilets were established in 327 places. Instructions were issued to the staff to continuously carry out chlorination to prevent spread of communicable diseases and water pollution.
Additional sub-stations and transformers were also provided for continuous supply of power.
Separate camps were set up at 18 places to trace out missing children and officers from 19 districts were deployed for supervision of sanitation. The services of over 5,000 staff from Panchayat Raj department would be utilised during jatara, he added.
