Peddapalli: After Mancherial, the movement of a tiger was detected in the closed Medipalli opencast coal mine premises on the outskirts of the Godavarikhani coal belt town.
Forest officials confirmed the tiger’s presence based on pug marks found in the opencast quarry premises. Pug marks were also found along the Godavari riverbank. Based on these indications, forest officials suspect that the tiger, which was sighted in the Srirampur opencast coal mine in Mancherial district a few days ago, might have entered the Medipalli opencast mine after crossing the Godavari river.
Acting on information shared by Mancherial forest officials, a Peddapalli forest team led by Shivaiah launched a search operation and found pug marks near the Lingapur graveyard on Sunday.
On Monday, Kaleshwaram range forest officials led by Prabhakar continued the search and detected fresh pug marks near a pump house in the area. Three forest teams have been deployed to trace the whereabouts of the tiger. Singareni officials are also taking part in the operation.
Residents of surrounding villages, including Lingapur, Medipalli, Malkapur, Pamulaparthi and Rayadandi, have been advised to remain alert and avoid visiting agricultural fields alone.
