Karimnagar: District Collector K Shashanka instructed officials to take steps to provide protection to destitute children of people who succumbed to Covid-19.
The Collector conducted a review meeting with officials of Women and Child Welfare, SC, ST, BC and Education departments to discuss steps to be taken to provide protection to the children of Covid victims, at his camp office here on Tuesday.
Besides getting them admitted to schools, scholarships, Rythu Bima and Rythu Bandhu benefits should also be provided, he said.
He wanted the officials to provide legal assistance for the transfer of properties. He asked them to furnish details of poor children staying in SC, ST, BC and minority residential hostels as well as those studying in government and private schools to Bala Rakshaka Bhavan officials.
He also instructed the officials of Women and Child Welfare and Bala Rakshaka Bhavan to constitute a task force to identify the children who lost their parents to coronavirus. He wanted the authorities to provide nutrition kits to Covid positive children (below the age group of 18 years), who were in isolation.
District Welfare Officer Ch Sharadha informed that 248 children, who lost their parents, had been identified in the district. While six children lost both mother and father, 157 children lost either mother or father.
Bala Rakshaka Bhavan coordinator Saraswathi, Social Welfare Deputy Director Nethiniyal, BC Welfare Officer Raja Manohar, Minority Welfare Officer Madhusudhan, Tribal Development Officer E Gangaram and others participated in the meeting.
