Khammam: BRS party corporators expressed serious concern over the severe financial difficulties faced by ordinary citizens in Khammam Municipal Corporation due to property tax, UAC (Unauthorized Construction) penalties; illegally levied taxes on cellar and stilt floor parking areas.
The BRS municipal corporation floor leader Karnati Krishna, deputy floor leader Maqbool and several other corporators met with the municipal commissioner Abhishek on Tuesday and submitted a written objection letter regarding the issues.
The corporators stated that levying property tax on cellars and stilt floors used solely for parking purposes was against municipal laws. They also pointed out that while UAC penalties should be considered zero for buildings constructed before September 1, 2013, an additional burden was being imposed on the public under the guise of surveys conducted by private agencies.
Levying a 50 percent UAC penalty even on buildings that have obtained occupancy certificates (OC) was unjust, the corporators complained. The beneficiaries who received pattas under GO Ms.No.58 during the previous BRS government’s tenure and beneficiaries of Indiramma housing schemes were still facing difficulties with house numbers, mutation and electricity connection issues, they said.
The BRS corporators asked the municipal commissioner to find a permanent solution to the problems being faced by the public. They requested the Commissioner to officially provide the corporators with complete details regarding the issuance of ration cards; the list and status of beneficiaries of the Indiramma scheme.
The corporators suggested that if the problems were resolved according to the rules without imposing unnecessary financial burden on the people, the municipal revenue would also increase and governance would become easier.
The BRS corportors Budigam Srinivas Rao, Burri Venkat Kumar, Nagandla Koteswara Rao, Pasumarthi Rammohan, Kurakula Valaraju, Gade Amrutamma, Mateti Nageswara Rao, Saraswati Naik, Rudragani Upender, Bikkasani Jaswanth, Jakkula Laxmaiah and Seelamsetti Veerabhadram were present.
