Hyderabad: The principal opposition BRS on Wednesday moved a privilege motion against the Congress government for misleading the Legislative Council on Musi Riverfront Rejuvenation project issue.
Speaking at the media point at the Legislative Council, BRS MLC K Kavitha accused the government of misleading the House on the issue of the Musi project and trying to hide the facts. She said during the Question Hour on Tuesday, Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu informed the House that no Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project had been prepared and that it had not sought any funds from the World Bank. However, the fact was that the government approached the WB for funds for the project, she said.
She presented documents pertaining to a proposal submitted by the State government to the World Bank, mentioning that a DPR has been prepared and seeking loan for the Musi Riverfront project. She released the documents before the media at the Assembly media point.
Coming down heavily on Congress government, Kavitha said senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi always carry the constitution book with them and claim that they believe in the spirit of Constitution, but their party government in Telangana lies on the floor of the House. “When we serve the people with sincerity and honesty, only then will we be seen as respecting the constitution. However, the Congress government was misleading the House and people of Telangana on the issue of the Musi project,”she alleged.
The BRS MLC said the government in September told the WB that it had prepared DPR and in October it handed over the preparation of DPR to a consortium, but when the BRS asked about the DPR in the Council the government said that it had so far not prepared it. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had been changing his stand on the Musi project from the beginning and now his cabinet colleagues too were giving wrong information about the project, she alleged.
Stating that the Chief Minister should give clarification on the Musi river in the Assembly, she said there was a need for the government to tell people about the project. “Is it for the people or real estate companies? Why is the Musi project being initiated? Government needs to clarify on the issue. ,”she said.
The BRS expects the government to respond to the privilege motion and place all the facts related to the Musi project at the Assembly, she said, adding that if the government failed to clarify the issue people would teach it a lesson in coming days.
