Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (BRSV) staged a massive protest in front of the Telangana Council for Higher Education at Masab Tank on Monday, demanding immediate release of Rs 10,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues. BRSV leaders accused the Congress government of betraying students who were promised welfare but left in limbo.
BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas Yadav said lakhs of students, particularly from poor and backward sections, were suffering as scholarships remain unpaid for nearly 20 months. “The Congress used students as a vote bank during elections. But the government is not responding to demands for release of dues, putting the future of 13 lakh students at risk,” he charged.
Tension prevailed as police detained several protesting student leaders and shifted them to Nampally police station. The BRSV demanded their immediate release and warned of a Statewide agitation if the government failed to act.
Extending solidarity to the educational institutions’ strike from September 15, Srinivas Yadav said many colleges, including engineering, MBA, MCA, pharmacy, and degree institutions, were reeling under debts and even postponing exams. “This government has no money for students and pensions, but plenty for new projects and commissions,” he said.
He demanded a clear timeline from the government on when dues would be cleared, stressing that continued neglect would force students and institutions onto the streets.
