Hyderabad: Charging the ruling Congress with misleading people on Telangana’s outstanding debt, BRS MLC K Kavitha said the Congress government’s lies have been exposed wide open in the State Legislature. She demanded that Congress should admit its mistakes and apologise to the people of the State for misleading them.
Speaking to media persons at Telangana Legislative Council on Friday, Kavitha pointed out that the union government confirmed in the Parliament that the State’s outstanding debt stands at Rs 4.42 lakh crore at the end of the current fiscal year, while Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is falsely claiming Rs 8 lakh crore. She stated that Congress had come to power on a foundation of lies.
“It had not only misled people about the State’s debts but also on various other issues, including the structural strength of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. But Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy admitted in the council that all the barrages are intact and are not facing any structural issues,” the BRS MLC said. She suggested that instead of blaming the previous BRS regime, the Congress government should take responsibility for its failure to ensure adequate water supply in the State.
Stating that the BRS effectively played its role as a strong opposition during the Legislative session concluded on Thursday, Kavitha said the party consistently cornered the government on key issues such as farmers’ issues, women’s welfare, and fee reimbursement, among others. She noted that the Chief Minister was forced to announce in the Council that fee reimbursement funds would be released and vowed that BRS would keep up the pressure until it is implemented.
The opposition leader in the Council, S Madhusudana Chari, senior MLCs L Ramana, Satyavathi Rathod and Seri Subhash Reddy also spoke.
