Crime rate in Telangana’s Warangal drops 3.21% in 2024, reveals annual report

According to Commissioner of Police Amber Kishor Jha, 14,406 cases registered under the Commissionerate limits as against 14,731 in 2023

Warangal: Amid criticism over deteriorating law and order situation in the State, the Warangal Commissionerate has witnessed a decline of overall crime rate by 3.21 per cent. Presenting the annual crime report at the commissionerate on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Amber Kishor Jha said in 2024, a total of 14,406 cases were registered under the Commissionerate limits as against 14,731 in 2023.

Giving details of the various offences that took place in the commissionerate during the current year, Jha said compared to last year, murder cases decreased by 16.67 per cent in 2024, while property crimes came down by 2.23 per cent. Similarly, cases related to crimes against women came down by 11 per cent, frauds 16 per cent, and kidnapping 7.45 per cent, he said, adding that the number of deaths due to road accidents dropped 12.30 per cent compared to last year.

The commissioner said the cases of rape declined by 46 per cent, molestation (38%) and cases of harassment against women (34%) as compared to last year. During the current year, a total of 5,862 cases were disposed of by the courts, of which 2,462 cases ended in conviction, he said.

As many as 18 inter-state gang members were arrested by the Warangal Commissionerate Police and stolen property worth Rs 11.81 crore was seized by the police, he said, adding that 772 cases related to cyber crimes were registered during the year and approximately Rs. 1.30 crore was recovered from cyber criminals.

Also, the police seized marijuana worth Rs 2.63 crore and booked 147 cases against 321 persons, he said, adding that in 2024, about 1,270 missing cases were reported in various police stations under the commissionerate, of which 1,128 were traced and efforts were being made to trace the remaining 142 persons.
