Hyderabad: The Panjagutta police have concluded that Dr Kasturi Jagadish Chandra was killed due to the rash and negligent driving of a 16-wheeler lorry on Greenlands, Begumpet Road, early Sunday morning.
Jagadish, a doctor at KIMS-Sunshine Hospital, was traveling on a rapido bike taxi when the lorry collided with the bike from behind. Both Jagadish and the bike’s driver, Mudhangal Naveen, fell onto the road and were subsequently run over by the lorry. Naveen died on the spot, while Jagadish succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.
“The lorry was speeding, and the driver could not control his vehicle upon spotting the two-wheeler, leading to the accident,” said an official of the Panjagutta police station.
However, the police stressed that bike taxi drivers should ensure that the pillion rider also wears a helmet. “Wearing a helmet helps in preventing head injuries. In most accidents involving two-wheelers, the rider or the pillion passenger dies due to head injuries,” said a traffic police official.
Traffic police officials also mentioned that awareness programs are regularly conducted in coordination with the Road Transport Department for auto-rickshaw and heavy vehicle drivers on road safety. Checks for drunk driving are also carried out regularly in the city, especially at night, to prevent accidents caused by drunk drivers.
