KARIMNAGAR: Works on the modern integrated vegetable and meat market being constructed in Padmanagar locality of Karimnagar town have reached the final stages.
Except for a few minor works, all major works were completed. The Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar authorities are planning to inaugurate the market very soon.
The Rs 16.50 crore market taken up under the Smart City programme, will house both the vegetable and the meat market in the same building spread over 2.08 acres. A total of 239 shops will be located in the market.
Separate vending platforms for vegetables and meat have been constructed. While 179 platforms were developed for vegetable vendors, 32 were for meat sellers. There were 14 units each for fruit and flower vendors as well.
Besides the Padmanagar market, three more integrated markets are also being developed in different places of town.
While the market that is being developed in front of the Collectorate camp office is taken up under the Smart City programme, two others are being established under the CM’s assurance funds.
All three projects were taken up during the previous BRS government’s tenure.
Works on the Collectorate camp office market are progressing at a brisk pace. A total of 347 shops are being developed on 2.31 acres of land involving an expenditure of Rs 14.05 crore.
The market will have 228 vegetable, 63 meat, 36 fruit, and 20 flower stalls. Works on the Kashmirgadda market are in the initial stage, while another market has been planned at Kisannagar agriculture market.
It may be recalled that an integrated market constructed in Shanivaram market Rythu Bazaar premises turned into a futile effort with the vendors not occupying the stalls.
Though officials had shifted vendors from the Venkateshwara temple market to the integrated market, they returned to their old spots.
