Kothagudem: The district police have been working for the welfare and development of adivasis in agency areas in the district, stated Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju.
The SP along with additional SP T Sai Manohar inaugurated a newly constructed Mandal Parishad Primary School building at Burugupadu village of Cherla mandal in the district on Monday.
The school located at remote Maoist-affected border village Burugpadu was being run in a dilapidated hut and Cherla police who came to know about the plight of the students constructed the school building. The villagers thanked the SP and the police officers for building the school.
Addressing the adivasis, Rohith Raju advised them to send their children to the school regularly so that they could study and settle well in their lives. For the development of a child education was a must and hence the villagers should take responsibility for their studies.
He said that the Maoists were exploiting the tribals for their selfish needs, hindering their development and depriving them of basic facilities. Maoist leaders have not undertaken a single programme to benefit the tribal people. Adivasis should not support Maoists, he noted. The SP distributed exam boards, notebooks, sweets and fruits to the school children.
Later in the day at Cherla police station, Rohith Raju handed over reward cash cheques to five Maoists who surrendered recently to police. He said that he would take responsibility on behalf of the police department to provide rehabilitation assistance to surrendered naxals and appealed to Maoists to surrender to lead a normal life.
A surrendered Maoist, Madhavi Somamma alias Sunitha and her husband Madakam Linga alias Rakesh were given the reward of Rs 4 lakh each. Madvi Bhadraiah was given Rs 4 lakh, Kattam Pojjaiah Rs 40,000 and Kalmu Budra was given 20,000.
SB inspector Srinivas, Cherla CI Raju Varma, SI Narsi Reddy, CRPF inspector Balakrishna and the school headmaster Veera Swamy were present.
