Hyderabad: BRS working president and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao has filed a civil defamation suit before the City Civil Court in Hyderabad against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, seeking damages of Rs 10 crore for making false, malicious, and defamatory allegations. The suit also seeks removal of the defamatory content, an unconditional public apology from the Union Minister, and a perpetual injunction restraining further defamatory publications.

In his plaint, filed through his counsel P Viswajanani of PV Janani and Associates, Rama Rao has also impleaded several media organisations and social media platforms that carried or circulated the statements.

According to the complaint, on August 8, 2025, Bandi Sanjay made obscene and defamatory remarks linking Rama Rao to alleged misuse of Telangana’s Special Intelligence Branch, phone tapping, and financial irregularities. The remarks were widely broadcast on television channels, newspapers, and circulated on social media platforms including X, YouTube, and Meta.

Despite a legal notice issued on August 11, Bandi Sanjay did not apologise, prompting the BRS leader to move the court. Rama Rao argued that such statements, especially from a Union Minister, damage not only his personal reputation but also the credibility of elected representatives.

“An elected Union Minister making such irresponsible and derogatory remarks has serious implications on the credibility, dignity, and trust of public representatives,” the plaint said.

The case has been admitted before the Chief Judge of the City Civil Court, Hyderabad. The plea will be heard next for damages, apology, and injunction orders against the defendants.
