Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said more focus was being laid on creating awareness on road discipline among drivers and pedestrians and the government developed certain applications and installed surveillance cameras to monitor road safety measures.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting with World Bank team and concerned departments on Road Safety at BRKR Bhavan on Friday.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary said several measures have been taken by State Government to prevent accidents and minimize fatalities. He said Transport and Police departments were jointly conducting Road Safety Weeks to create awareness among drivers on over speeding. The government was giving high priority to providing timely medical care to accident victims. He further said it was a good opportunity to work with World Bank Team to improve road standards and minimize accidents.
The World Bank team said Rs 6,725 crore funds were allocated to 14 States in the country on the basis of fatalities, registered vehicles and length of the road network. As part of this programme, World Bank allocated Rs.320 crore to Telangana. The World Bank team further explained about the key themes like Road Engineering, Vehicle Safety and Driver Training, Enforcement and Post-Crash Care as part of the implementation of the programme.
