Peddapalli: With people continuing to dump garbage into drainages despite repeated appeals from municipal and gram panchayat officials, causing frequent blockages, the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation has decided to install fencing along nalas. Work on the fencing has already begun in select areas.

The corporation spends more than Rs.50 lakh every year to remove silt and clear piled-up garbage. In an effort to reduce this recurring expenditure, officials have opted to fence the nalas. Main drainages in Ramagundam, Godavarikhani and NTPC areas are being modernised using funds from the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation. Modernisation works are underway from Indiranagar to Markandaya Colony, GM Colony to the Medical College via IB Colony, and from Rajiv Rahadari to Sapthagiri Colony via the Medical College.

CC drains made with steel and concrete are being constructed to last more than 50 years. Alongside the modernisation, fencing is being installed to prevent garbage from being dumped into the drainages, officials said.

Fencing arrangements are being incorporated as part of ongoing works, with the first phase covering the nala from Indiranagar to Addaguntapalli.

Corporation officials said sanitation and public health were being given top priority. The fencing would help keep drainages clean, ensure smoother water flow and prevent plastic waste and litter carried by the wind from falling into the nalas, they added.
