Mancherial: BRS district president Balka Suman alleged that Labour Minister Dr G Vivek, along with Peddapalli MP G Vamshikrishna, “murdered democracy in full public view” by conspiring to postpone the election of the chairperson of Kyathanpalli Municipality.
Addressing the media in Kyathanpalli on Tuesday, Suman expressed regret that Congress councillors, who were allegedly intoxicated, misbehaved with women councillors of the BRS-CPI alliance during the election process in the presence of Vivek, Vamshikrishna, election officials, and police personnel, in an attempt to delay the election. “Women were insulted. It’s a black day. It’s a shameful act by Vivek. Will he accept if anyone were to misbehave with his women?” he questioned.
The district president described the incident as a “Dusshasana episode” and said he had never assaulted anyone, including Vivek, during his political career. He alleged that Vivek and Vamshikrishna were diverting public attention from the election by indulging in immoral and unethical acts. He offered to sacrifice the councillors if Vivek needed them.
He alleged that Vivek stooped to a new level to capture the chairperson post and was feeling insecure about his ministerial position after suffering a setback in the Kyathanpalli civic body elections. He demanded that officials release CCTV footage of the meeting proceedings.
Suman claimed that he had not damaged Vivek’s vehicle, as alleged by the Minister, and said that Congress was portraying the self-defense actions of BRS cadres as an assault on Vivek. He stated that he was ready to face cases for the people of the town and urged women and intellectuals to condemn the incident. He also requested Vivek to respect democracy, being the son of former Union Minister Venkataswamy.
He announced that the BRS-CPI alliance would observe a bandh of commercial establishments in Kyathanpalli on Wednesday in protest against the alleged undemocratic acts of Congress. AITUC leader Seetharamaiah criticised officials for not allowing the media to cover the process, stating that the press was permitted to record elections elsewhere.
