Telangana: Srinivas Goud slams State government for disappointing home guards

Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister V Srinivas Goud expressed shock over the disappointing hike announced by the state government in salaries for home guards marking the Home Guards’ Day.
Addressing a news conference at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, he said the government was expected to give a major relief to home guards, but left them concerned. He pointed out that the government announced a pay hike of Rs 79, but claimed it to be Rs 1,000.
He emphasized that this minimal increase was insufficient to meet the needs of home guards. He recalled that during their tenure, the BRS government provided insurance facilities for home guards and increased their salaries from Rs 9,000 to Rs 20,000, while effecting an additional 30 per cent PRC hike.
He mentioned that the BRS government had introduced a 30 per cent risk allowance for those working in traffic police stations and provided dress allowances and special leaves.
He recalled that a committee led by Rajiv Trivedi was set up to regularize home guards, and there were expectations that the current government would appoint them as special police assistants.
He demanded that the government fulfill its promise of making home guards permanent employees. He called for an ex gratia of Rs.10 lakh for the families of deceased home guards.
He insisted that retired home guards should also receive benefits similar to those provided to police officers. He urged the government to expedite the recruitment process for home guards and address their demands promptly.
He stressed the need for a dedicated room for the home guards’ association at the DGP office and assured that any harassment of home guards would not be tolerated.
