Hyderabad: Continuing their protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, TRS MPs said they would not step into Rajya Sabha until the Chairman accepts the Privilege motion against the Prime Minister.
The comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi attract breach of Parliament privileges, besides hurting the people of Telangana, TRS Parliamentary Party leader K Keshava Rao said.
“The Prime Minister’s comments attempt to demean the procedure and proceedings of the House,” Keshava Rao said in New Delhi after staging a walkout from Rajya sabha on Thursday.
Finding fault with the Prime Minister’s comments, TRS MP Suresh Reddy demanded the Prime Minister to withdraw his comments.
In the past, when bills were presented for bifurcation of three States in the Parliament, there were agitations and disturbances in both the Houses. The BJP-led NDA government has been in power since seven years and if there were issues in the AP Reorganization Act, the government could have amendment it to ensure benefits for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he said.
Telangana was the sole agenda of TRS party. Leaders and people from the State have been appealing the Central government to fulfill the assurances made under the AP Reorganization Act but there was no response. Instead, the Prime Minister makes irrelevant comments and hurts the people of Telangana, he said.
“We have decided not to step into Rajya Sabha until the Chairman accepts the Privilege motion against the Prime Minister,” said Suresh Reddy.
