All set for KMC polls, 2.88 lakh voters to cast their votes
District Collector RV Karnan said a total of 2,88,646 voters would cast their vote to elect the candidates contesting in 60 municipal divisions of the KMC.
Collector, RV Karnan inspected the KMC election distribution centre at SR&BGNR College in Khammam on Thursday.
Khammam: The stage is set for Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) polling to be conducted here on Friday, District Collector RV Karnan said on Thursday.
Karnan, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi and election general observer Ahmed Nadeem inspected the election reception and distribution centre at SR&BGNR College here on Thursday to review the arrangements made for the polling.
Speaking to the media persons on the occasion, Karnan said a total of 2,88,646 voters would cast their vote to elect the candidates contesting in 60 municipal divisions of the KMC. There are 139291 female voters and 149309 and 46 others.
A total of 377 polling stations, including one auxiliary polling station, have been set up in 60 wards in the city. Polling in 65 polling stations would be monitored through video coverage while 56 polling stations to be monitored through live webcasting.
Similarly 258 polling stations would be covered by around 75micro observers. A total of 66 returning officers (ROs) and an equal number of assistant returning officers (AROs) have been appointed to conduct the elections, the Collector noted.
All precautions have been taken to ensure safety of the polling staff strictly following the covid-19 guidelines issued by the State Election Commission (SEC). In all, 2274 polling personnel have been deployed to conduct the elections in a smooth and fair manner.
Every polling person told to maintain social distance they have been given covid kits with sanitiser, face masks and face sheets, Karnan while appealing to the voters not to fear but to maintain social distance and wear face masks when coming to polling stations to cast their votes.
Karnan further informed that a local holiday was declared on Friday for the public and private undertakings and firms located in the areas notified for elections to facilitate employees working in the organisations to exercise their franchise.
Similarly,a local holiday has been declared on Thursday and on May 2 and 3 for all public buildings, educational institutions and other buildings that are being used for conducting polling and counting of votes, he added.
