Khammam: In a rather strange development, a Congress leader has alleged that the husband of the party’s corporator was encroaching government lands at Ramanagutta in Khammam city.
Congress leader Gotteparthi Srinivas, speaking to the media, alleged that party leader Mohammed Mustafa, who happened to be the husband of the 57th municipal division corporator, was encroaching on about 840 yards of land in survey number 64 in Ramanagutta area and building houses.
Making the things more intriguing, Srinivas was said to be a follower of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka while Mustafa was said to be the follower of Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. Srinivas said that he joined Congress in the presence of Bhatti Vikramarka a few years ago and worked for the victory of Mustafa’s wife in municipal elections.
He said the previous BRS government allocated the land for a community hall and school in 2018. But Mustafa, using earth movers, was levelling the area overnight to encroach the land. A complaint to the District Collector was submitted during the grievance cell meeting as well as tahsildar and revenue inspector. The Tahsildar said fencing would be erected around the area.
However, the Congress leader engaged some individuals to build houses on the land and when they were questioned why they were building the houses, they said they were given the land by Mustafa. It was the government that should allocate the land to the needy, how Mustafa could do so, Srinivas posed.
What Mustafa was doing was not correct and would bring a bad reputation to the government. The officials should erect fencing around the land to protect it from encroachment by land grabbers.
Steps should be taken to construct a community hall and an Anganwadi School as for the last 20 years, the local Anganwadi School was being run in a rented house, he added.
