Hyderabad: Amid objections from residents and various sections over land acquisition for Musi Rejuvenation Project, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government had set a timeline to commence works by August 2026 and complete them by December 2027.
A Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on the Musi Rejuvenation Project was held here on Friday. Along with the Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers D Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar reviewed the project. Key decisions were taken regarding project progress, funding mobilisation and construction timelines. Officials were specifically directed to submit a detailed execution calendar.
During the meeting, officials informed the Ministers that the project would be implemented in five phases covering 55 km. Phase-I, estimated to cost nearly Rs.7,055 crore, has successfully completed technical and financial discussions with the Asian Development Bank for funding, they said.
Accordingly, the Ministers instructed that initial construction work, especially the first five-km stretch with minimal impact, should be taken up immediately within the 21-km stretch from Himayat Sagar to Bapu Ghat and Osman Sagar to Bapu Ghat.
They suggested modifying project alignments to reduce the impact on existing structures. Officials were instructed to plan meticulously and execute the project without causing inconvenience to the public.
The Deputy Chief Minister instructed officials to obtain all environmental clearances before proceeding with the works and to widely publicise the benefits of the Musi project. Special committees should be formed to coordinate finances, approvals and inter-departmental work, he said.
Under the East-to-West corridor, an elevated corridor of 55 km from Narsingi to Gowrelli is being planned. Preparation of the Detailed Project Report for expansion from Uppal Bhagath to Gowrelli is underway.
Discussions were also held on obtaining lands from the Defence Department for the Gandhi Sarovar project.
Rubber dam models reviewed
As part of tourism development under the Musi project, rubber dams will be installed at various locations along the river, similar to check dams. These are expected to enhance water storage and support water sports and boating activities.
The Ministers reviewed a rubber dam model based on Obermeyer Spillway Gate Technology at Praja Bhavan. Officials were directed to study similar installations in Nashik and Mumbai and submit a detailed report.
Madhupark Ridge Association representatives meet Ministers
Later, representatives of the Madhupark Ridge (B-Block) Residential Association met the Cabinet Sub-Committee members and submitted their requests and concerns.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the government was taking a positive approach towards the residents of Madhupark Ridge B-Block and urged them to cooperate and become partners in the prestigious project. The association representatives responded positively to the government’s assurances and expressed willingness to extend support to the Musi rejuvenation initiative.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured that the government would extend full support to those displaced as part of the project.
