Constable Swaraj P N, belonging to the BSFs 4th battalion, was found hanging from the ceiling of a mess at the Tactical Headquarters in Koyalibeda police station area.
According to sources, the Pakistani army also suffered numerous casualties in the "strong and effective" retaliation by the Indian troops as several of their posts were also destroyed.
The BSF was raised on this day in 1965 with a purpose to guard India's international border with Pakistan and later with Bangladesh too when it became an independent country in 1971.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde, rejected the plea. The apex court had, on November 18, reserved its verdict after hearing from the respective parties.
The officials said SI Rakesh Doval deployed at the BSF artillery battery at the LoC in Baramulla was killed after he sustained head injury in the firing around 1315 hours.
The militants made an abortive bid during the night to infiltrate into the Indian side of the LoC in Machil sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
