Deshmukh resigned as Maharashtra's home minister on Monday after the HC directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

Deshmukh submitted his resignation letter to Uddhav Thackeray, senior party minister Nawab Malik said.

It directed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) director to complete the preliminary inquiry within 15 days and then take a decision on further course of action.

It is the BJP which has a mission and the "Congress is only interested in commission", the BJP chief alleged.

The 66-year-old politician, who was president from 2007 to 2012, was convicted for having tried to illegally obtain information from a senior magistrate in 2014 about a legal action in which he was involved.

"The Congress president must desist from making baseless allegations against the TRS and its leaders since people were not willing to believe them," he said.

He also said whenever anyone raised eyebrows at the ability of the country and the countrymen, it has turned out to be wrong.

The ACB laid a trap and nabbed the sub-engineer after receiving a complaint against him for allegedly demanding bribe for doing an official favour.

Dharma Reddy in collusion with Tahsildar Nagaraju claimed rights over 24 acres of land although he did not possess the land, the ACB officials had maintained.

Activists have long complained of a campaign of kidnappings and killings to intimidate them into halting demonstrations.

"You would think that the press themselves, the people who are covering that campaign, would be frustrated by the fact that they're not getting much information... that there's no real access to the candidate on a daily basis."
