Heavy rains in Adilabad district recently affected standing crops, including cotton, red gram, soya, and maize, across 1,961 acres. A preliminary assessment revealed damage to crops in the mandals of Jainath, Bela, Boath, Thamsi, Bheempur, Gadiguda, and Utnoor.

Officials of the agriculture department said that standing paddy, red gram, soya and maize crops to the extent of 1,961 acres were affected by heavy rains that lashed the district recently.

Excluding Hyderabad, among all the districts, Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded the highest rainfall of 28.3 mm till 7 p.m., followed by Rangareddy, which received 11.7 mm and Mahabubnagar 11.1 mm.

The farmers, in their letters have also demanded the government to announce Rs.25,000 as compensation for each acre of crop that suffered damages due to unseasonal rains or went dry due to water shortage.

Extensive crop damage has been reported due to the rains and the State government was reviving the crop insurance.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao said, "All the MLAs and other public representatives of the State should give assurance to the farmers in this difficult time."

Finance Minister T Harish Rao promised the farmers that he would take up the issue with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
