Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages, intended to boost agriculture, pisciculture, and biodiversity, have been left non-functional under the pretext of structural issues

Approximately 75% of the water released from the barrage, after lifting all 85 crest gates as advised by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), came solely from the Pranahita River. The remaining inflows were supplied by the upper Godavari, which experienced a significantly higher water yield this year compared to the previous two years.

Despite a year-long exercise, the final report is unlikely to be completed before the December 31 deadline set by the government

The final report from the NDSA is not anticipated before the end of the year, with the possibility of further delays.

Critics argue that the NDSA report was designed to benefit the ruling party at the Centre, with allegations on planning, design, construction quality, and management errors.

Giving in to mounting pressure from farmers in its ayacut, pumping operations were resumed drawing water from the Yellampalli reservoir, instead of Medigadda to feed multiple reservoirs that are part of the KLIP network.

Three of the major projects- Medigadda, Sammakka Sagar and Seetarama Sagar on Godavari have been receiving heavy inflows and they are likely to rise further as heavy rains were forecast in north Telangana districts for the next two days.

The Almatti dam started receiving inflows that are in the range of about 1,00,000 cusecs on Tuesday. The catchment of the upper Krishna irrigation projects in Karnataka have been receiving heavy rains for the last four days.

Irrigation officials firm on resuming the pumping operations under the project and keeping all the pump houses ready.

These bids were for the auction of 14 blocks. These sand blocks are located within Mahadevpur mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

Almost all Irrigation officials who were associated with the construction of Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, key components of the multi stage lift irrigation scheme are expected to make their depositions as part of the process.

“We are now confident of resuming pumping operations at Annaram and Sundilla barrages. We are waiting for the NDSA nod to go ahead with lifting of water from Godavari,”senior officials in the Irrigation Department said.
