Telangana: 1061 Assistant Professors recruited and appointment letters released

Telangana government completed the process of recruitment and issuing appointment letters to 1061 Assistant Professors to different Government teaching hospitals across the State.

Hyderabad: Telangana on Monday created a record of sorts in public health sector by appointing 1061 Assistant Professors to government medical colleges and attached hospitals. This is perhaps for the first time that such a large number of specialty doctors have been handed over appointment letters on a single day in the country.

The recruitment of 1061 Assistant Professors, which is part of a concerted effort by the Telangana government to strengthen medical education and clinical services in government hospitals, was concluded in a short span of just 5 months.

“Such a large recruitment of specialty doctors is unprecedented not only in the two-Telugu speaking States but across the country. This feat was possible only because of the meticulous planning on the part of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and separate statehood,” Health Minister, T Harish Rao, who distributed the appointment letters to the newly recruited Assistant Professors on Monday, said.

Overall, since statehood, a total of 22, 263 posts across different wings in the State health department have been filled. In the next few months, the process of filling another 9, 222 posts belonging to various cadre will be completed, taking the total number of recruitments to 31, 485 posts.

“You have the unique opportunity of teaching, treating and even taking-up public health research in government hospitals. I sincerely hope that you make good use of it. The State government is open to provide all possible support for any kinds of research activity in government hospitals,” Harish Rao, while addressing the new recruits, said.

Just a month ago, the Telangana government had concluded recruitment of 956 doctors in the State and posted to different Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Through Telangana State Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board, the State government is also in the process of concluding recruitment of 5204 nurses across multiple departments in the coming months.

Senior health officials including Secretary, Health, SAM Rizvi, VC, KNRUHS, Dr Karunakar Reddy, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Swetha Mohanty, Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy, Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao and other senior health officials were present.
