Cong failed to transform people’s support: Komatireddy
Despite tall claims, the Congress party’s disastrous performance in the Huzurabad bypoll has not gone down well with senior leaders in the State. Reacting to the bypoll verdict, Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said, “The Congress has good presence and support in Huzurabad constituency. Yet, the party has not made any attempts to transform the people’s support into votes,” he said. “It has been nearly five months since Eatala Rajender resigned from Assembly but Congress party did not take any serious measures to consolidate its presence in Huzurabad. Till the election notification was issued, not a single meeting was organised,” he further added.
“Congress party has not fought the Huzurabad election with the same intensity and commitment as it fought in Dubbak and Nagarjuna Sagar by-polls. All the ground realities pertaining to Huzurabad will be explained to the party high command,” said Komatireddy. Sangareddy MLA T Jagga Reddy charged NSUI State president Balmoori Venkat Narsing Rao was made a scapegoat by fielding him as a candidate in the Huzurabad by-poll.
“Had Congress managed to secure deposit in Huzurabad, then Revanth Reddy followers would have said it was because of TPCC president’s leadership. Now, that Congress lost deposit in the election, we are being blamed,” Jagga Reddy said. Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar too expressed his unhappiness over the party’s strategy in the Huzurabad by-poll. “This is not BJP’s victory but Eatala’s victory. However, Congress party high command has to review its strategies and factors for loss in Huzurabad election,” Ponnam Prabhakar said.
Meanwhile, owning up responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the Huzurabad election, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy said he would comment on the election outcome in the future. He appealed to the party cadre not to get disappointed with the outcome and assured that the party would work with renewed energy. Regarding party senior leaders comments on the Huzurabad verdict, Revanth Reddy said, “Senior leaders have the freedom to express their views. We will discuss those aspects in our internal meetings. As a leader, I have few limitations.”
