The collisions involved two passenger trains and a goods train. At least 14 passengers were killed and over 50 injured in Sundays collision between Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger and Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger near Kantakapalli junction in Kothavalasa mandal (block).

According to media reports, the locomotive pilots of Rayagada Passenger and a guard of the Palasa train also died in the accident.

According to railway officials, the accident occurred at about 7 p.m. between Alamanda and Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram-Kothavalasa Railway Section of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway Zone.

Biswajit Sahu, Chief Public Relations Official of East Coast Railway in Bhubaneshwar, confirmed 33 train cancellations, 24 diversions, and 11 partial cancellations in the aftermath of the accident.

Officials of the East Coast Railway (ECR) said that at around 7 pm on Sunday, the Palasa passenger train hit the Rayagada passenger train from behind at Kantakapalli, about 40 Km from here, causing three coaches to derail.

Railway officials have rushed to the site to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.
