Hyderabad: Come a crisis, and Hyderabad is one city where there are always good Samaritans who step forward right in the nick of time to help.
This fact was proved in the city when the first and second waves of Covid-19 pandemic swept through, affecting several persons and forcing them into isolation. In some instances, individuals and families, and in other instances, voluntary groups, came forward to extend support with essentials and food for Covid patients.
Now, as the Omicron-triggered third wave makes itself felt in the State, a Hyderabad-based NGO has again stepped forward to help Covid-19 patients by giving them cooked meals and that too free of cost.
The NGO, Helping Spot, has two kitchens, one in Miyapur and the other in Shamirpet, where the cooking is done. And once the cooking is done and the food is packed, IT employees are volunteering to deliver the food to patients.
According to the support group, those who are in isolation and are in need of food can share their Covid positive report and their location on the Helping Spot WhatsApp number (88866 86000).
Says Bhargav Ventrapragada, the one behind the initiative: “Since the Covid third wave started turning worst each day, I thought I should restart ‘Free Food For Covid Patients’ campaign and serve patients who are in home isolation.”
“We transport the food in our own vehicles and we do not charge anything from patients for the food or for the delivery. It is costing us about Rs.15,000 a day and we are meeting the expenses from our savings,” he says.
Currently, the NGO is delivering food at seven areas in the city – Miyapur, JPN Nagar, Srivani Nagar, Krushi Nagar, Bachupally, Ameenpur and Nizampet. The initiative is being funded entirely by members themselves.
During the second wave last year, Helping Spot provided 35,000 food packets to Covid-19 patients across 15 different locations in the city.
