A 40-year-old man was allegedly murdered by a group of assailants following a dispute over a Ganesh idol pandal in Tukaramgate. Police said the victim had allegedly helped a woman marry her lover four years ago, angering her family.

Dalit Bandhu beneficiaries in Telangana are disappointed over the Congress government’s failure to fulfil its promise of increasing financial assistance from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh. The previous BRS government scheme helped several beneficiaries establish income-generating ventures.

It is learnt that a few of the beneficiaries had closed their units due to various reasons, prompting the government to conduct an inquiry on the sanctioning and functioning of Dalit Bandhu units.

About 5,000 beneficiaries, who established various business units with the financial assistance given as the first installment by the previous BRS government, are facing troubles to run their units since they are unable to do transactions after their bank accounts were frozen by the current government

Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who had joined the Dalits by taking up their issue, was manhandled and literally dragged away by the police from the protest venue, following which he developed chest pain and was admitted to hospital

Criticising the police machinery for working under the influence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he warned that unnecessary police attacks would not be tolerated

The incident occurred when Kaushik Reddy and BRS workers staged a protest questioning the delayed release of the second phase of financial assistance to the beneficiaries of the Dalit Bandhu scheme
