Three workers were injured after falling from an under-construction railway bridge near Kagaznagar in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. One worker was trapped, prompting a rescue operation, while colleagues raised concerns over unsafe working conditions at the site.

More than two years after a bridge across Peddavagu was opened in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, incomplete approach roads continue to inconvenience motorists from four mandals, especially during the monsoon, forcing risky access and unsafe travel conditions.

Heavy rains lashed Warangal on Sunday, flooding low-lying areas and paralysing traffic. Several colonies were submerged as Peddavagu overflowed, while TSRTC buses got stuck under water at a RUB. Residents faced house inundations, and shopkeepers reported damage to goods.

The bridge was to be constructed at a cost of Rs 8.50 crore with financial help from NABARD and the works had begun way back in 2007

The modernisation component of the project, proposed almost seven years ago, but could not find its way forward would be posed for the assistance under the Command Area Development and Water management programme.

Officials have been using polythene covers to prevent bund breaches at the irrigation project, which is situated in a region that has been seeing heavy rains for the last two years.

The board sought to push forward the proposal for modernisation of the project and accordingly called for a meeting of the irrigation officials of the two States with a request to act on it with a sense of urgency.

Demanding a thorough enquiry into the incident, Harish Rao said the project gates were opened only after the farmers under the projects alerted the officials.

The breach in the project bund occurred on Thursday night as the crest gates of the project malfunctioned and one of the three gates was not opened.

NDRF teams have launched rescue efforts to save the 19 persons who were stranded after flood waters of the Peddavagu stream rose at Katta Maisamma temple area at Narayanapuram on Thursday.

The cattle were safe by swimming ashore about 3 kilometers away from the bridge, bringing relief to the villagers.
