Telangana: Rain, strong winds lash old Karimnagar
The fresh round of rains meant more damage for farmers, who have already suffered heavy losses due to frequent rains during the last few weeks

Karimnagar: Heavy rain coupled with strong winds lashed several parts of the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Sunday night, throwing normal life out of gear.
The highest rainfall of 91.8 mm was recorded in Karimnagar town followed by Durshed of Karimnagar rural at 86.8mm, Gattududdenapalli of Manakondur mandal at 64.8 mm and Chinthakunta of Kothapalli mandal at 63.5 mm. The fresh round of rains meant more damage for farmers, who have already suffered heavy losses due to frequent rains during the last few weeks.
Paddy stocked in paddy procurement centres was inundated in rain water in many centres in erstwhile Karimnagar. In some centres, crops were washed away. Tarpaulin covers placed over the paddy stocks to protect it from rain were blown away by the strong winds.
BRS leaders including public representatives visited affected PPCs and met farmers, promising them support and assistance from the State government. Elsewhere, trees were uprooted and electric wires were also damaged due to the strong winds.
Two cattle were electrocuted after they came into contact with electric wires that snapped in Rekuthi of Kothapalli mandal. A shepherd died in a lightning strike in Kalwasrirampur mandal of Peddapalli district.
Rainwater flowed on roads in Nakachowk in Peddapalli road, Hussenipura, Mancherial Chowk, new Labour adda in Mankammathota, Thirumalnaga, Vidhyanagar, Indiranagar, Adarshanagar and Ashoknagar of Karimnagar town. Water also entered shops in Jyothinagar, Vidhyanagar, Shiva Theatre areas. Drainage water entered localities in Aamernagar Colony as drainage works were under progress.
On the other hand, coal production came to a standstill in various open cast mines in Ramagundam-I,II,III areas.
