The Telangana government finalized the boundaries of 300 GHMC wards on December 25, completing the merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies. Zonal Commissioners assumed charge of 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards to oversee administration and GHMC orders

The GHMC has announced a major restructuring following the merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). The civic body has increased zonal circles from six to twelve, covering 300 wards. Each zonal circle will consist of five circles, making a total of 60 circles.

The GHMC has rolled out a ‘One-Time Scheme’ (OTS) for property tax defaulters, offering a 90 percent waiver on accumulated interest. Taxpayers, including those from 27 newly merged Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), must pay the principal amount along with 10 percent of arrears interest in a single payment.

Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender admitted that he had defected to the Congress, triggering political debate amid disqualification proceedings. He said he remained a Congress MLA and would campaign across GHMC divisions ahead of civic polls.

To improve urban service delivery, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) proposes doubling its wards from 150 to 300. This reform addresses Hyderabad’s expansion to nearly 2,000 sq km. Hyderabad water board has announced its summer action plan for 2026 to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply across GHMC and ORR areas. Managing Director K Ashok Reddy directed officials to prepare micro-level plans, monitor allocations, and arrange adjustments in low-supply zones.
