The Vigilance and Enforcement Wing’s investigation into the construction of Medigadda barrage and other key components of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation scheme is in the final stage. Government sources said its report is getting the finishing touches.

The Yellampalli project plays a crucial role in supplying drinking water to Hyderabad. The HMWSSB draws water from the Yellampalli reservoir to meet the city’s needs.

A team of officials from the Irrigation Department will leave for New Delhi next week to submit the report and seek the way forward for resuming the pumping operations at the barrages.

The Commission, which was expected to submit its report by June 30, is in fact, halfway through its inquiry process.

Officials who could not complete the task in the day are likely to seek more time for submitting affidavits.

The engineers and officials testified before the Commission have been asked to submit their version of the issues involved in the construction of the project in writing on or before June 25.

The Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) has already been engaged in intensive studies on the barrages.

The latter had briefed the commission on sequence of proceedings that led to the decision for taking up the construction of three barrages at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla and the source of water that was lifted from Godavari river.

Leader of Opposition and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao said latest reports indicated that regional parties were going to outperform national parties in this elections.

He also interacted with the Chief Engineer of the Project and Engineer in Chief (General) Anil Kumar as part of his information gathering exercise at the barrage site.

Justice Ghose interacted with officials of the Irrigation Department right from the Irrigation Secretary to the Chief Engineer of the project for the initial briefing after a powerpoint presentation.

The team had a thorough inspection of the barrages and the sagging portions of the structures during its first visit on March 7 and 8.

The BJP government at the Centre was making use of the NDSA like other national agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, CBI and CAG to target the rival political parties including the BRS , Prakash Rao said.
