Officials stated that the traffic police are carrying out special drives to curb the use of modified or altered silencers, which not only contribute to noise pollution but also pose a risk to the safety of other road users.
Traffic ACP Satyanarayana warned that criminal action would be taken against the motorist and the mechanic who made any changes to the silencers that came along with the bike from the company
ACP (Traffic) Srinivasulu stated that the special drive was launched on the instructions of Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt, following complaints of bikers using modified silencers on Royal Enfield motorcycles. Many riders had been altering the factory-installed silencers, creating excessive noise, while others were fitting loud horns, contributing to noise pollution. He warned that legal action would be taken, including the seizure of vehicles causing such disturbances.
They seized 86 modified silencers fixed to the motorcycles replacing the original silencers. As they received complaints about nuisance by youngsters, police started a campaign to remove modified silencers.
